About Constance Jaeggi

Constance Jaeggi is a Swiss photographic artist based in Fort Worth, TX. She moved to Texas in 2009 to pursue a Bachelor’s degree from TCU and a competitive cutting horse-riding career. She has since then studied at the New York Film Academy and most recently completed a Master of Art History and Art World Practice at Christie’s in London. Jaeggi was short-listed for the Critical Mass Awards in 2021 and is a member of Women Photograph. Jaeggi lives and works between Fort Worth, Texas and Denver, Colorado.

Jaeggi’s work focuses on the relationship between horse and human, in particular women. Drawing from her experience as a competitive horse rider and rancher, she uses horses as a backdrop for exploring themes of intimacy and identity, connection, and power dynamics.

In Jaeggi’s recent project, Escaramuza, the Poetics of Home she collaborates with two poets to capture the challenges and triumphs of contemporary Mexican American women who compete in the world of charrería, and explore the roles of family, immigration and gender dynamics within escaramuza and charrería culture in the US, drawing historical parallels to the soladaderas who fought in the Mexican Revolution and are the inspiration behind the creation of the escaramuza tradition.

Jaeggi’s work has been exhibited internationally and published notably in the Washington Post and The Guardian.
