About Daniela Torrente

Daniela Torrente (São Paulo, 1976), lives and works in São Paulo. She holds a postgraduate degree in Contemporary Artistic Practices (FAAP - Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado, São Paulo, Brazil) and in Image, Processes, Management, and Contemporary Culture (CEI - Center for Image Studies Madalena, São Paulo, Brazil). She has a degree in Visual Arts from Faculdade Santa Marcelina, São Paulo, Brazil. She is a member of the Hermes Visual Arts support group. Her work is part of the collection of the Museum of Image and Sound in São Paulo (MIS). She was awarded at the 15th Bienal de Artes Visuales mulier, mulieris in Spain. She participated in the portfolio reading section Descubrimientos at the International Photography Festival PhotoESPAÑA 2022. Her research focuses on forced displacement, starting from personal experience as a descendant of survivors of the Armenian genocide. Issues such as the interruption of daily life, the impact on the lives of women in refugee situations and their descendants, expanding to themes such as identity construction, memory keeping, erasure, prejudice, oppression, religious faith, social reorganization, and non-belonging are important aspects of her research. She uses photography as a basis but also engages in interventions with painting, engraving, sewing, and scraping.
