About Hanna Wolf

Hanna Wolf is a self-taught British-Canadian photographer, born in Oxford, England in 1985. She received her BA in English from Durham University in 2007 and her MFA in Theatre Directing from Birkbeck in 2009.

She began her career in theatre but after the birth of her son, was drawn to photography to explore themes of memory, familial history, and identity that come through the act of caregiving. Her work involves analog and digital photographic techniques, with a strong focus on personal narrative and self-portraiture.

She was recently named a winner of the 2024 LensCulture Critics’ Choice Awards. She has been shortlisted for the 2024 Taylor Wessing Photo Portrait Prize Exhibition, Head On Portrait Awards (2023), Royal Photographic Society IPE 165 (2023), the Julia Margaret Cameron Awards (2023), Pollux Awards/ FotoNostrum Gallery, Barcelona (2023) & her work has been shown at Modern Art Oxford (Photo Oxford 23), Ovada Gallery (Procreate Project, 23), Pinakothek der Moderne & ZIRKA, Munich (DeGrief 15th Anniversary Exhibition, 'Past & Present').
