About James Naylor

From North London, currently operating in both the West Midlands and London, James Naylor is a sociopolitical photographer who is interested in photography activism that stirs a conversation to be had about culture and minorities. First starting as a realism portrait artist with pencils and then later ink, James Naylor uses fine art as a means to further his narrative storytelling of topics that seem almost autobiographical to him. Mostly focusing on the self and identity, each project takes on a self-portrait of the artist in one way or another. It is here that James Naylor has explored LGBT+ culture, the effect of capitalism on fashion and mental health, the discussion around mental health through the way we chose to present ourselves, along with early experimentation of street photography and interment self-portraits depicting his transition after coming out as a trans man.
