I am a Portuguese independent documentary photographer and photojournalist, focusing on human rights. My passion for photography began at age 6 with my first Polaroid camera.
After graduating in architecture in 2016, I was selected for a workshop at RCR Arquitectes (Pritzker 2017) and worked at Frederico Valsassina’s studio for three years. From 2020 to 2022, I completed an analog photography course at Ar.Co and interned at Público, where I shifted my focus fully to photography.
My interest in Portuguese colonialism began with the project Pele Escura (2021), a film addressing racism and inclusion. This work inspired Trançar o Mundo (2022), a visual project celebrating African hair heritage, created in collaboration with Afro-descendant hairdressers.
In 2023 I participated in the Masterclass Narrativa led by the photographer Mário Cruz, where I developed “MARIA,” my latest project and book. “MARIA” received the Cortona On The Move Award 2024, was a finalist for the Prix Virginia, APhF Dummy and Blow Up Press Book Awards, and earned an Honorable Mention at the Novos Talentos Fnac 2024.
As a contributor to Reuters, The Guardian, and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, I aim to highlight critical issues and amplify marginalized voices through photography.
