About Mohammad Tasawar Islam

I started my photography journey at the age of 16. As I grew up, I realized photography is one of the most impactful mediums for storytelling. As my journey evolved I slowly delved deeper into the realm of visual arts and sociology to better understand global political context, cultural reality, critical social narrative and its impacts. Now in 2024, I am constantly searching for stories depicting human isolation, detachment from nature and eccentric urban lifestyle.

I started working as a freelance photographer in 2019, when I was pursuing my undergraduate degree, in Mechanical Engineering. After completing it, I traveled across Asia which inspired me to become a full time documentary photographer. Currently in 2024, I am pursuing my diploma in photography at Counter Foto, a center for Visual Arts located at Dhaka, under the mentorship of Saiful Huq Omi.

My goal as a photographer is to create an analytical narrative and construct of our social realities implying my phenomenological vision and thought process. My work has been published in different national and international dailies- such as The Guardian, The Daily Star, The Prothom Alo, The Business Standard, and Better Photography magazine.
