Philippe MAZAUD (born in New York City, American and French) is an artist currently based in Portland, Oregon. His work involves both painting (notably in its unconventional use of dry pigments and pastel blocks) and photography (a blend of analog and digital). It positions itself, in some sense, at the interface of several domains –– pictorial and photographic, analog and digital.
Mazaud’s artistic training included a brief stint at the École des Beaux Arts (Paris) and subsequent study at the New York Studio School (painting, drawing and sculpture). Later on, he earned a PhD in mathematics (research in topology, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, 1997).
