Ramona Jingru Wang (b.1995, China) employs documentary photography to craft narratives that transcend the mere studium. Rooted in her Asian heritage, her work delves into themes of identity, community, and the deep connections between humans and their surrounding space as well as the natural land. Ramona probes how images intertwine with our perception of reality, fostering unique connections between individuals and spaces, and shedding light on the compassionate bonds that photographs can nurture.
She studied in the International Center of Photography-Bard College, and graduated with an MFA in photography from the Pratt Institute, New York. She has been the recipient of the the 2023 Creator Labs Photo Fund by Aperture and Google, BARON Prize 2020 with her video work “wish you were not here”, short-listed for Palm* Photo Prize and the winner of the Capture Writing Prize 2021. Her works have been featured on i-D, DOCUMENT Journal, It’sNiceThat, PhotoVOGUE, FAR-NEAR Media, etc. and exhibited in the Museum of the City of New York
