Simon Lehner (1996) is currently living in and working from Vienna, Austria and in his graduating/diploma semester in Photography and timebased media at the University of applied Arts Vienna, Austria.
With his series „How far is a lightyear?“ he won the Paris-Photo Carte Blanche Award + the Paris-Photo Maison Ruinart Prize in 2018 and was selected in 2019 as a Red Hook Labs New Artist and for the Rencontres d’Arles Voies Off Awards. He received special mentions at the Plat(t)form Winterthur 19 for his body of work.
His ongoing book project „Men don’t play“, which includes a text by Brad Feuerhelm of American Suburbx was shortlisted for the Unseen Dummy Award in 2017.
Previously his work was featured in or commissioned by The British Journal of Photography, US-Vogue (September issue), i-D, Paper Journal Magazine, Document Journal, L’UOMO Vogue, Vogue Italia, die Zeit, Ain't Bad, Ignant, der Greif (Guest room), Tique Art Magazine, Phases Magazine, Musée Magazine, C41 Magazine and various others and exhibited in the US, UK, the Netherlands, France, Italia, Russia and Austria.
His work comes from personal experiences and has a documentary core as it explores, contemporary issues, social structures, psychology and its relation to current human and social developments through direct and embedded observation.
