About Ulla Deventer

Ulla Deventer is a visual artist and researcher, born 1984 in Germany, living and working between Accra, Havana and Hamburg. She works across mediums, with a focus on photography, sound and video, addressing the dynamics of gender, sexuality and power in patriarchal society.
Since 2019, Deventer became member of TIME-LABS: Cuba Photography Missions, a research group in Havana. The same year, she enrolled for a Ph.D. program at the Fine Art Department of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Kumasi, Ghana. Her work has been exhibited internationally and has been supported by several scholarships and awards. It has been selected for the “Ones to Watch” by the BJP, as well as for the .tiff talents by the Fotomuseum Antwerp. She studied at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Hamburg, the Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts de Lyon and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp. Most recently, Ulla Deventer was nominated for the ING Unseen Talents Award 2019 and the Joop Sward Maste
